Foreclosure assistance for Houston-area homeowners

Texas foreclosure rules are statewide, but a few things are local. Here's what Harris County homeowners should know.

What stays the same across Texas

The notice periods are set by state law: generally at least 20 days to cure a default, and at least 21 days' notice before a sale. Sales are held on the first Tuesday of the month, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

What's specific to Harris County

  • Notices of sale are filed with the Harris County Clerk and posted at the courthouse. You can search county records through the County Clerk's office.
  • The sale location is designated by the county commissioners court — historically at the Harris County courthouse area in downtown Houston. Your notice of sale states the exact location.
  • Harris County is large, and foreclosure lists are long — sale days move quickly, so don't wait for the date to get close before acting.

How we can help

Save My Texas Home is run by The Santos Home Group, a Houston-area real estate team affiliated with HomeSmart. We explain the process, share free resources, and — only if you ask — talk about selling options, including listing your home or a separate cash-offer consultation with Stone Path Home Buyers. Asking for help never requires selling.

Education, not legal advice. We share general information and referrals. We are not attorneys, and no one can guarantee a foreclosure will be postponed or stopped. Submitting a request on this site does not stop or postpone a foreclosure.
